I’m a full-time attorney and mixed-media artist. For years, my identity was almost entirely wrapped up in being a lawyer. Then I experienced burnout. I started painting—almost every day. I wasn't trying to become an artist. I was simply looking for something that felt different from the constant analyzing, advocating, deciding, and carrying that comes with legal work. And then something unexpected happened. I discovered I was an artist. Painting became more than something I did in my spare time. It opened a door to a part of myself I hadn't given much room to develop. That experience became the foundation for Attorneyatart, where I explore the intersection of law, creativity, identity, and the lives of women attorneys. I created the A.R.T. Method—Acknowledge, Recognize, Transform—and the Creative Reset Deck to help women attorneys experiment with small, intentional creative practices of their own. I'm not an art therapist, and I don't believe creativity has to be another item on your to-do list. I'm interested in something simpler: What happens when a woman who spends her days solving everyone else's problems gives herself permission to create?
