About Basics of Burn Care

Basics of Burn Care is your resource to learn or teach the essentials of burn care. This initiative focuses on universal treatment principles of burn care that are applicable in any setting, with a special focus on low- and middle-income countries where 90% of the burns occur. At Basics of Burn Care, we are committed to enhancing the quality of burn care globally by making critical information accessible and easy to understand. By providing educational materials, courses, and resources, the initiative aims to empower healthcare workers. It creates a platform to improve essential knowledge and skills to better manage burn injuries. Through partnerships, research, and continuous development, the Basics of Burn Care project seeks to transform burn care globally. We are inspired by the principle of ‘One World, One Standard of Burn Care’, proclaimed by Dr. David Mackie during his chairmanship of the International Society for Burn Injuries (2012-2016). The treatment principles of burn care are the same around the world, however access to resources differ and require a context specific approach to apply these universal treatment principles.
