Aligning AI with human behavior
About Behavioral AI Lab (formerly Safety by Design Lab)
Behavioral AI Lab is my independent advisory and consulting practice focused on why AI systems fail after deployment — and how behavioral science addresses this gap. I help organizations design and deploy AI systems that align with how people actually decide and act, improving adoption, product growth, and trust & safety. Most AI failures are not technical — they’re behavioral. My work focuses on three areas: • AI product adoption — diagnosing why users don’t trust or use AI products, and redesigning decision flows to reduce behavioral friction • Trust & safety by design — building behavioral safeguards into AI products, drawing on my experience founding Match Group’s Safety by Design program • Scam and manipulation detection — applying behavioral science to detect cognitive bias exploitation and AI-mediated manipulation, where traditional ML approaches often struggle, but behavioral insights significantly improve detection I work with organizations deploying AI in regulated industries, building consumer AI products, or tackling trust & safety challenges at scale. Background: PhD in behavioral economics; publications in American Economic Review and Harvard Business Review; leadership roles at Amazon, Uber, Match Group, and the World Bank.
