About Border To Coast Pensions Partnership
Based in Leeds, Border to Coast is the largest pensions asset owner in the UK. We manage the investments of 18 Local Government Pension Funds - our Partner Funds - whose assets total nearly £120bn and which represent over 5,000 employers and two million members. The Partner Funds are Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Cumbria, Durham, East Riding, East Sussex, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Surrey, Teesside, Tyne and Wear, Warwickshire, and West Sussex. Our purpose is to make a difference for the LGPS. We work in partnership with our Partner Funds for a sustainable and better tomorrow through innovation, expertise, scale and good governance. We provide our Partner Funds with the resilience, capacity, capability and access needed to capture high‑quality investment opportunities which enable them to pay the pensions of members in a cost effective and sustainable manner. Our scale enables us to help Partner Funds reduce the cost of delivering pensions for the 5,000 local government employers. These cost efficiencies allow more resources to remain available for the vital public services communities rely on. This is one of the many ways we seek to make a meaningful, lasting difference for the LGPS. The cost-efficiency of LGPS pensions should not be underestimated: each £1 of retirement income is delivered around 50% cheaper than typical defined contribution schemes. The c.£416 per month* that the average LGPS pension provides offers dignity, stability and financial security in later life – supporting the people who power our local services. *A Better Bang for the Buck 3.0: Post-retirement Experience Drives Pension Cost Advantage.
