About British Thoracic Society (BTS)
The British Thoracic Society (BTS) exists to improve standards of care for people who have respiratory diseases and to support and develop those who provide that care. We are a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. Our activities cover all of the UK. We seek to work collaboratively with others and maintain a global outlook. On 30 June 2022, we had 4,254 members. These are doctors, nurses, respiratory physiotherapists, scientists and other professionals with a respiratory interest. All join because they share an interest in our main charitable objectives. Many also join because they want to make a difference. BTS certainly benefits from members' active participation in our work, with around 12% of the UK membership being involved in activities at any given time.
