Every hour of every day, we make 1000MW available to our customers to transport electricity between GB & NL.
About BritNed
BritNed owns and operates the 1000MW interconnector between Great Britain and the Netherlands, connecting the electrical grids of the countries and powering 1.4 million homes per year (based on Ofgem’s average consumption figures for UK homes). We deliver world class asset reliability, which is vital to the energy needs of Great Britain and the Netherlands, and we do with it with a key focus on safety. During 15 years of operation, BritNed has operated with an average availability of 92%, transported over 92 TWh of power and maintained an excellent safety record of 0 Lost Time Injuries (LTI) - the equivalent of over 5,480 days without incident. We endeavour to provide participants with the greatest choice and convenience in their trading activity. In 2023, we launched Empire, our award-winning next-generation auction and nomination platform. Empire has been meticulously designed to deliver unparalleled levels of convenience, reliability, and flexibility for BritNed’s auction participants, by replacing fractured workflows with integrated journeys and unique trading possibilities. The integrated platform is the home for all BritNed trading activities, including participation in long and short-term auctions, capacity nomination management, viewing financial settlement overviews and generating reports. BritNed is an international organisation with sites based in Great Britain and the Netherlands. We are proud to be an international team from around the world with some of the most knowledgeable experts in the industry, delivering a wide range of technical and commercial expertise.
