Caelus is a clinically validated microbiome platform company for cardio-metabolic health. We develop defined next-generation microbial strains and bring them to market with partners through ingredient supply and selected co-development. Our lead strain, Anaerobutyricum soehngenii CH106 (A. soehngenii), is the first live commensal gut bacterium of its kind to receive a positive safety opinion from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) under the EU Novel Food Regulation. The FDA issued a “no-question letter” in response to Caelus’s GRAS notification for A. soehngenii, a testimony of the excellent safety profile and the rigour of the underlying data that Caelus presented. Caelus combines strain selection, clinical validation, regulatory strategy, intellectual property, process development and ingredient supply. Our intellectual property covers both the strains themselves and the processes used to manufacture them. This end-to-end platform turns defined next-generation microbial strains into partner-ready products.
