Specialist Investment Bank | Project Finance for Nature-based Solutions, Global South
About Calculus Carbon
Calculus Carbon is a specialist investment bank advising sponsors and capital providers on Nature-based Solutions in the Global South. The firm is headquartered in London, with team presence in India and Singapore, and is backed by Temasek through InfoEdge Ventures II. Our focus is raising project-finance capital for Nature-based Solutions projects with long-term offtakes from institutional counterparties. On the sell side, we advise sponsors with signed offtake on structuring and closing the capital that scales the underlying project. On the buy side, we work with a defined set of capital providers who source into this asset class. We operate across two channels within the specialism. The first is voluntary-market projects whose offtake sits with an investment-grade corporate buyer or a balance-sheet principal broker; here the credit quality of the offtake is what makes the project bankable. Capital on this channel comes from corporate treasuries, specialist NbS debt funds, climate-thesis private credit, DFI carbon desks, and family offices with a carbon mandate. The second is compliance-market-eligible projects whose credits are structured to qualify into a defined regime, including Japan's GX-ETS, Korea's K-ETS, Singapore's Article 6 pathway, South Africa's carbon-tax offset framework, and the adjacent regimes coming online. Capital on this channel comes from commodity funds, hedge fund commodity desks, banks with commodity or compliance-carbon books, physical carbon traders, and corporate compliance treasuries in the target regime. Every mandate on our sell-side book has three clear components before we sign it: • An institutional-grade sponsor with a signed offtake. • A financial model our in-house team has stress-tested through its own sensitivity analysis. • A dataroom that has been reviewed by our in-house technical experts and is ready for capital-provider diligence.
