Calla Lily Clinical Care is a British clinical-stage medical device startup developing Callavid®: a leak-free, convenient and dosage-confident delivery platform for vaginally-delivered drugs. We are initially focused on delivering progesterone for threatened miscarriage and IVF, where there is an unmet need for a patient-friendlier means of drug administration during an already stressful fertility journey. We are also developing Callavid® for locally-delivered antibiotics. An oral antibiotic circulates through the entire body to treat an infection in one place. Delivering it locally means a smaller dose, less systemic exposure, and less disruption to the microbiome — which is where much of the selection pressure behind antimicrobial resistance (AMR) comes from. This work is supported by a Wellcome Leap award. Callavid® can also deliver menopausal treatments, targeted cancer treatments, live biotherapeutics (LBPs), and therapeutics and prophylactics for infectious disease. For pharmaceutical partners, Callavid® offers a differentiated drug delivery modality for pipeline drugs, and a means of extending the lifecycle of established assets including off-patent therapeutics. Callavid® builds on our patented Tampliner® platform, which holds FDA 510(k) clearance and was named one of TIME magazine's Best Inventions of the Year.
