About NSF Critical Materials Crossroads Engine in the Kansas City Region

The Critical Materials Crossroads (CMC) is a collider of investors, innovators, legislators, entrepreneurs, and small/large business around critical materials. The CMC aim is to on-shore the production of critical materials and create a completely U.S. based supply chain for both the defense and commercial markets. The vision is an innovation and manufacturing campus that utilizes an innovation, scaling, and production (ISP) model to meet essential national security supply chain needs, while simultaneously, enabling and raising economic development metrics of individuals in the greater Kansas City region. The formation of the CMC will establish Kansas City as an innovation hub and thought leader for the entire nation around critical materials innovation, scaling, production. The CMC: • engages community and industry leaders to build support and scale opportunities in the critical materials / critical goods market space • identifies workforce skills and requirements and builds out capacity to train the workforce needed to support these industries, and • leverages research expertise across an extensive network of academic and industry partner
