About Dagmarsminde

Dagmarsminde is a Danish care home for people living with advanced dementia, founded in 2016 by nurse May Bjerre Eiby. We believe that life does not end when a person moves into a care home. Our approach is built around compassion, presence and everyday life – creating calm, reducing stress and supporting each person as the individual they have always been. At Dagmarsminde, care is rooted in relationships and compassion. We work to minimise the use of sedatives and antipsychotic medication through non-pharmacological approaches, meaningful everyday life, sensory and homelike surroundings, nature, movement and close human connection. Palliative care is an integral part of our approach from the beginning, with a strong focus on comfort, dignity and quality of life throughout the course of dementia. Dagmarsminde has become an internationally recognised example of a different approach to dementia care. Our work has been documented in the film It Is Not Over Yet and shared through books, research, teaching and international talks and visits. Our ambition is simple: to show that even with severe dementia, life can still contain meaning, relationships, beauty and joy.
