About Doctor Dance Academy

Doctor Dance Academy is the education and professional-development home of Doctor Dance Ltd, founded by psychologist, former professional dancer and author Dr Peter Lovatt. We provide evidence-based education in dance psychology: the study of dance, dancers and the psychological processes involved in moving. Our courses explore how dance can influence the way people think and feel, support social connection, contribute to health and wellbeing, and affect motivation, confidence and performance. The Academy welcomes dancers, dance teachers, movement practitioners, psychologists, therapists, healthcare professionals, researchers, students and anyone curious about the relationship between movement and the mind. No previous qualification in dance or psychology is required for our introductory learning. We offer live online cohort courses, self-paced courses, masterclasses, seminars and individual supervision to learners around the world. Areas of study include introductory dance psychology, dance psychology and healthcare, mental skills for dancers, performance anxiety, motivation, mental wellbeing and the psychology of movement. Our aim is to make rigorous dance-psychology research accessible, engaging and useful without oversimplifying the evidence. Learners are supported to understand research, reflect on their own practice and apply psychological ideas safely and responsibly.
