EcoSoap
Reducing the spread of infectious disease by employing women to rescue & recycle soap in communities that lack hygiene
About EcoSoap
We are a non-profit social enterprise that employs women across Africa and Asia to upcycle soap waste from manufacturing partners into new bars and distribute them as affordable bulk soap for shelters, schools, and humanitarian organizations globally. EcoSoap was founded in 2015 by Samir Lakhani in Siem Reap, Cambodia after he watched a woman wash her newborn with laundry powder, the only thing available to her. The logic has always been the same: soap waste exists in enormous quantities. The problem is distribution. Our process is simple: Soap manufacturers big and small send us their scraps; material that would otherwise go to a landfill and our women soapmakers process it into high-quality hygiene bars. We then sell those bars at subsidized prices to NGO partners around the world. Since 2015, we've delivered over 85 million bars of soap from our hubs in Cambodia, Nepal, Sierra Leone, and Tanzania. ecosoap.org | contact@ecosoapbank.org
