About European Academy of Engineering

Founded in 1992 in Gothenburg, Sweden, the European Academy of Engineering (Europeiska Ingenjörsakademin – EAE) is an independent, non-profit academy that brings together leading engineers, scientists and innovators from across Europe. Born in the transformative post–Cold War era, the EAE was created to unite Eastern and Western European engineering talent and to provide a shared, forward-looking platform for collaboration, dialogue and impact. From the beginning, the EAE has been built on interdisciplinary excellence and shared leadership. Its unique governance model is based on 13 disciplinary classes, with the presidency rotating annually among their chairs. This structure ensures that no single field dominates the agenda and that the full breadth of European engineering – from biomedical and digital systems to infrastructure and energy – has a voice at the table. Over three decades, the EAE has evolved into a trusted forum for engineering science, policy advice and innovation. The Academy convenes major international gatherings such as the World Engineering Forum and the EAE Forum, hosts programmes like the Young Engineers Program and the Sustainable Engineering Program, and collaborates with universities, academies and European institutions on issues ranging from renewable energy and smart cities to AI, climate action and the Green Deal. Today, as it marks more than 30 years of activity, the EAE remains committed to engineering for a sustainable, inclusive and technologically advanced Europe. The Academy champions cross-disciplinary exchange, nurtures the next generation of engineers and works to ensure that engineering solutions are not only technically excellent, but also socially and environmentally responsible.
