About Foundation for Local News Inc.

More than 100 municipalities in New Jersey are currently without a local newspaper or local news source. This crisis is particularly acute in southern New Jersey, which is almost wholly bereft of local news, creating a void that impacts all residents of the area. While numerous publications cover the State House, few report on how state issues impact local communities, creating a disconnect between residents and government that leads to voter apathy. At the same time, New Jersey is in dire need of a pipeline of aspiring journalists who would benefit from an opportunity for real-world education, training and experience in the field. The Foundation for Local News, Inc. is working to address the aforementioned issues to help improve the local news ecosystem in New Jersey. The Foundation for Local News provides charitable support to improve the local news ecosystem in New Jersey, creates educational opportunities for high school and college students, provides funding to help bloom news in news deserts, and heightens public awareness about the local news crisis. The Foundation for Local News, Inc. focuses attention and resources on the local news ecosystem in New Jersey, enabling local news to not only survive, but thrive, which in turn promotes democracy and citizen engagement. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization.
