About Heart of BS13

For over 35 years, our charity has been designing and delivering programmes that reduce health inequalities in Hartcliffe and Withywood (BS13). This area experiences the highest levels of deprivation in Bristol, with some neighbourhoods ranked among the top 1% most deprived in the UK. All our programmes are co-designed with local people to ensure they respond directly to community needs and maximise engagement. We work in close partnership with VCSE organisations, GP surgeries, healthcare providers, and other local partners to tackle health inequalities and the wider social factors that affect individual health and community cohesion. Our work addresses key issues including diabetes, diet and nutrition, physical activity, mental health and wellbeing, and social isolation. We operate a thriving community social enterprise on our sustainable flower farm, which forms part of the wider regeneration of Hartcliffe City Farm. The farm provides green education, training, and volunteering opportunities for individuals and businesses. We also sell our stunning flowers, deliver floristy courses, and manage our innovative closed-loop compost system. Our community kitchen delivers long-term solutions to food poverty by providing healthy, nutritious meals for collection, alongside regular community lunches that bring people together. Our year-round community engagement programme is delivered from our Roundhouse Wellbeing Hub and offers a wide range of activities for all ages, including during school holidays. Many of these activities focus on addressing environmental issues and promoting greener, more sustainable lifestyles. Through these initiatives, we empower local people, strengthen community connections, promote wellbeing, and create pathways into education and employment. We are breaking down barriers and supporting people to live healthier lives in a community that has been left behind for far too long.
