Years are spent preparing wealth for transfer. Legal structures are established. Investment strategies are refined. Tax implications are carefully considered. But are the people—and their brains—who will inherit that wealth equally prepared for what comes with it? For many wealth creators, one of the greatest concerns is whether the next generation is genuinely prepared for the decisions, relationships, responsibilities, freedoms, and challenges that inherited wealth will create. When families say their children are "not prepared," they are rarely referring to financial knowledge alone. They are concerned about judgment, decision-making, emotional maturity, purpose, sibling relationships, spending, and whether wealth will ultimately strengthen—or divide—the family. People don't think, feel, and behave randomly. The brain predicts how to navigate situations by recruiting operating models developed through lived experience. Inherited wealth creates situations the future heir's brain may never have encountered before. Without operating models developed for those situations, the brain must draw upon models learned from previous experiences—even when those models were developed for very different situations. Knowing what someone should do doesn't determine which operating model their brain will actually recruit when the situation becomes real. Heir Preparedness addresses that gap. Using applied neuroscience, we help future heirs identify the operating models their brains are likely to rely upon and intentionally develop and test preferred operating models for the novel situations that ownership of family wealth will create. The objective is straightforward: prepare the heir's brain before the wealth passes into their hands.
