About Hft

We're a national charity, founded in 1962 by a group of visionary parents. We pioneered the idea that learning disabled adults have the right to choices about how they live and how they are supported, to enable them to live their life their way. Our support means learning disabled people can experience life to the full. Whether that means increased independence and improved wellbeing or finding meaningful friendships and paid employment. This support varies from a few hours a week to 24 hours a day. Ongoing cuts to social care budgets have placed mounting pressure on local authorities and providers. Today, local authority budgets only cover the basics, or funding for only those with the most complex needs. We don’t feel that is enough. We raise money for things that are no longer funded so that the people we support can live their life their way.
