We are His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) – an independent inspectorate that assesses the effectiveness and efficiency of police forces and fire and rescue services in England and Wales (policing) and England (fire and rescue). We inspect, monitor and report on how well forces and services are serving the public. Our work is independent of the police service, fire and rescue authorities and government, and we act only in the public interest. Our inspections look at whether forces and services are effective, efficient and legitimate. Where we find things that need to improve, we say so clearly – and we follow up to make sure improvements are made. Where we find promising or innovative practice, we share it so others can learn. We are committed to being proactive, using data and insight to spot problems early and intervene before they get worse. Our goal is to support lasting improvements that make a real difference to the communities police and fire and rescue services serve.
