HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network is the flagship institution of Hungary’s innovation ecosystem, connecting 7 research centres, 8 institutes, 101 supported research groups, with 5,000 researchers and experts across the natural sciences, life sciences, mathematics and strategic management. Our mission is to advance curiosity-driven discovery and impact-oriented research, transforming knowledge into long-term value for society, the economy, and the environment. Since December 2024, HUN-REN has operated independently under a dedicated law, ensuring organisational, financial, and research autonomy. This framework allows us to pursue world-class science efficiently and transparently, while fostering collaboration across disciplines and with international partners. We are passionate professionals united by a common purpose: to strengthen a performance-driven research network that addresses both national and global challenges. From fundamental research to applied innovation, we tackle areas aligned with Hungary’s innovation strategy, the János Neumann Program — including healthy living, digital transition, space science, energy and environmental security, and safety and defence. At HUN-REN we actively engage with universities, industry partners, and international research organisations to ensure that research outcomes are translated into practical solutions and integrated into value chains. Our network embodies century-long excellence of Hungarian science, international openness, and cooperation, strengthening Hungary’s presence in the global research community.
