About Institute of Digital and Autonomous Construction, Hamburg University of Technology

The Institute of Digital and Autonomous Construction (IDAC) started its operation in the Hamburg Innovation Port on March 1, 2021, under the direction of Professor Kay Smarsly. IDAC hosts an interdisciplinary team of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers conducting research across a broad spectrum of areas related to digitalization in engineering. Integrating sensing, control, and information technologies, the IDAC team members work at the boundaries between traditional civil/environmental engineering and related engineering disciplines, such as computer science, robotics, mathematics, material science, and electrical engineering. Furthermore, covering fundamental fields of modern civil and environmental engineering, IDAC offers courses in a broad variety of areas. In addition to teaching fundamentals of civil and environmental engineering, the IDAC team permanently integrates current trends and recent developments of research and engineering practice into the courses. In consequence, not only attractive and balanced courses are provided, but also the needs of students are met, who wish getting in touch with the latest, innovative fields of information technology and computing in civil engineering.
