About Inner City Law Center
Inner City Law Center (ICLC) is a nonprofit poverty-law firm that works to ensure that individuals, families, homeless veterans, and others struggling with housing instability in Los Angeles receive access to decent, safe, and affordable housing. Located in Skid Row, ICLC provides free high quality legal services to the often overlooked and under-resourced Angelenos we serve. With 150+ staff members, including over 70 lawyers, as well as paralegals, tenant organizers, and policy advocates, along with our dedicated volunteers and Pro Bono partners, Inner City Law Center is a multi-faceted organization taking on the worst homeless crisis Los Angeles has ever witnessed by fighting for housing and justice. Founded in 1980 in a rusty trailer behind a soup kitchen, ICLC has always been guided by the fundamental principle that every person should always be treated with dignity and respect. Every day, we work to do the following: • Defend low-income tenants against wrongful evictions with our innovative and holistic approach. • Fight to secure VA benefits for unhoused veterans with disabilities so they can begin their journey into safe, stable housing. • Stand up for victims of slum housing conditions and force their slum landlords to fix their buildings so families have safe, decent housing. • Defend against housing discrimination and secure vital public benefits for people living with HIV • Provide our under-resourced neighbors assistance with a variety of other legal barriers to housing stability; including outstanding tickets, credit problems, domestic violence, public benefits, and much more! • Advocate for affordable housing and the effective public policies we need to end homelessness once and for all.
