L'Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli di Bologna è una struttura ospedaliera e di ricerca altamente specializzata nel campo dell'ortopedia e traumatologia. Fondato nel 1896 per volontà del chirurgo bolognese Francesco Rizzoli, l'Istituto ha ottenuto nel 1981 il titolo di "Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere scientifico" (IRCCS) da parte del Ministero della Sanità. Punto di forza del Rizzoli è la stretta integrazione tra l'attività di assistenza e l'attività di ricerca scientifica svolta da circa 300 ricercatori e tecnici presso i laboratori di ricerca.
