About IRTA-CReSA Centre de Recerca en Sanitat Animal

IRTA-CReSA is aesearch center belonging to the Animal Health Program of the IRTA (Institute for Research in Agrifood Technologies) of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food and Natural Environment of the Generalitat of Catalonia. We work to improve animal health and the quality and safety of animal products intended for human consumption. We transfer the progress achieved in this research to the animal production sector and society in general. The research subprogrammes are devoted to Epidemiology and Risk Analysis, Endemic Diseases and Exotic Diseases. Highlights include research on innovative and effective vaccines, studies on epidemiology, risk assessment for human health and the realization of infection models and diagnostic techniques. IRTA-CReSA is a referent center in animal health, both nationally and internationally. We have a 3-level Biocontention Laboratory plant that, together with CISA-INIA, form the Network of High-Security Biological Laboratories (RLASB), cataloged as ICTS (Singular Scientific and Technological Infrastructure). We also offer services to slaughterhouses through the SESC (Support to Abattoirs) and other scientific-technical services to companies in the veterinary and agri-food sector.
