John Bertram Homes is a nonprofit assisted living organization dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors and supporting families throughout Massachusetts' North Shore. With communities in Salem and Swampscott, we provide personalized care, engaging lifestyles, and supportive environments where residents can maintain their independence while receiving the assistance they need. Founded in 1877 through the vision and generosity of Captain John Bertram, our organization established what became Massachusetts' first free-standing assisted living community for men and women. Today, that mission continues through two distinct communities: John Bertram House of Salem, a historic residence overlooking Salem Common, and John Bertram House of Swampscott, a coastal assisted living community featuring a dedicated Reminiscence Memory Care neighborhood. Our services include individualized care plans, wellness support, medication management, chef-prepared dining, housekeeping, laundry services, engaging activities, and assistance with daily living. At every level of our organization, residents are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
