Kobra Infosec GmbH is a German manufacturer of high-security solutions for the mobile protection of sensitive and classified information. With its Kobra VS storage devices, the company offers encrypted media for government agencies, the German Armed Forces, KRITIS organizations, public institutions and companies with high security needs. The product family includes Kobra Stick VS and Kobra Drive VS as USB-C sticks, SSDs or hard drives. All security functions are integrated into the device and operate independently of the operating system. Using 256-bit AES full-disk hardware encryption in XTS mode and two-factor authentication via smartcard and PIN, stored data remains protected even if the device is lost or stolen. The BSI-approved application areas cover the use of Kobra VS storage devices for information up to the German classification level VS-NfD as well as RESTREINT UE/EU RESTRICTED and NATO RESTRICTED. Approved uses include secure storage, retention, processing, archiving and transport of sensitive, personal, confidential and classified data. This makes the devices suitable for secure data exchange between authorized entities, shipment of classified information, geo-redundant backups, migration of sensitive data assets and secure transport of software, firmware or configuration data. Kobra VS devices support mobile classified workstations, for example by booting encrypted operating systems directly from the device. Further application areas include controlled use in air-gapped environments, such as read-only use or as a data diode, connection to data transfer gateways, protection of log data from vehicles, facilities or IT systems, and integration into existing PKI and smartcard infrastructures. The devices can also be used as authentication media or smartcard readers with PIN pads.
