About Leadership Mahoning Valley

The mission of Leadership Mahoning Valley is to “identify, educate and motivate community leaders to address the challenges facing the Mahoning Valley.” Now in its 40th year, Leadership Mahoning Valley is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit corporation created to identify individuals with diverse backgrounds and experience who demonstrate leadership talent and community commitment. Leadership Mahoning Valley is an immersive, hands-on leadership development experience designed to connect, educate, and inspire emerging and established leaders across the region. Through a series of curated program days featuring speakers, behind-the-scenes tours, interactive site visits, and group activities, participants gain a deep understanding of the institutions, businesses, services, and systems that shape our community. In addition to the Leadership Mahoning Valley nine-month signature program, we have also expanded our programming to include a Lessons in Leadership Speaker Series and specialty leadership development workshops targeting specific affinity groups such as Youth, Young Professionals, and Nonprofit Leaders, as well as a Women’s Leadership Network and an On Board! Board Training and Board Matching program. As the Mahoning Valley experiences new momentum in economic development and business growth, strong community leadership is more critical than ever. Our region’s ability to attract and retain talent hinges on cultivating a network of engaged, knowledgeable, and empowered leaders who are committed to making a difference. Leadership Mahoning Valley develops this leadership pipeline. Graduates go on to serve on nonprofit boards, lead civic initiatives, and drive innovation within their organizations and communities. Since its inception, more than 1,300 business and community leaders have graduated from the Leadership Mahoning Valley program and gone on to assume leadership roles within their organizations and our community.
