From Louis Armstrong and Allen Ginsberg to Dead Kennedys, Iggy Pop, Ramones, The Specials, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Herbie Hancock, REM, Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Soundgarden, Dave Chappelle, and many more, the Mab has long been a crossroads where music, comedy, poetry, and counterculture intersected across decades. Today, the future of the Mab is being shaped as a layered cultural ecosystem rather than a single venue: multiple floors, multiple communities, and multiple dimensions of experience—performance, nightlife, activism, and regenerative design—stacked in the same address. Through projects like the Solarpunkification Festival at Mabuhay Gardens and TheMab.org/solarpunk, we have been “thickening time” by designing intervals where creativity, collaboration, intergenerational presence, and more‑than‑human attunement line up, so that an evening can feel like a chapter and a festival can make preferred futures feel within reach. In this evolving frame, the Mab is a place for what we call thick time: moments where synesthetic experience, synchronicity, and serendipity co‑exist—where a punk set, a solarpunk installation, a comedy set, and a late‑night conversation all braid together into something you can return to in memory as a territory, not just a date on a flyer. The aim is not only to preserve a legendary stage, but to keep regenerating it as a living, joyful, many-layered cultural field where new artists and communities can keep adding to the story.
