About Malta Communications Authority
Established on the 1st January 2001, the Malta Communications Authority (MCA) is the statutory body responsible for the regulation of the electronic communications (telecommunications, radiocommunications and broadcasting transmission), eCommerce and the postal sectors. It is also the responsible body for Web Accessibility Directive which ensures that all public sector organisations’ websites and apps are accessible, using existing accessibility standards. In it’s wide range of responsibilities the Authority strives to promote competition, protect consumers and encourage innovation. In carrying out its duties, the MCA encounters complex issues of law, economics and technology and ensures that its decisions are taken fairly and are clearly explained. The Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jesmond Bugeja is responsible for, and has the overall direction of the MCA. The structure is based on cross-functional teams operating in a multi-disciplinary environment.
