About Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)
Maryland features a diverse educational landscape, comprised of over 1,400 public schools, 24 local education agencies (LEAs), and more than 7,000 child care providers statewide. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) works collaboratively with the Maryland State Board of Education and their stakeholders to ensure that all students, especially those who have been historically underserved, receive an excellent and equitable education. MSDE provides Maryland LEAs and communities with a wide range of services. These services include student assessments, professional development, child care licensing services, educator certification, rehabilitation services, and more. Together, we are a team focused on creating a rigorous and world-class educational experience for every Marylander, empowering them to succeed in college, career, and life. Our mission requires us to be bold with urgency. MSDE is implementing the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, a once-in-a-generation opportunity, that provides the policy and investment needed to accelerate student achievement and truly reimagine the educational experience from early childhood to postsecondary success. To accomplish this, the Maryland State Board of Education and Department of Education have developed a multiyear Strategic Plan. Maryland Transforms: A Strategic Plan for Maryland by Maryland aligns our vision, mission, values, priorities, enablers, goals, and flagship programs, initiatives, and strategies to the Blueprint’s promise of an excellent and equitable education for every student. The Strategic Plan is an investment in our students’ future and a testament to our collective belief in the power of education to transform lives and uplift communities. Anchoring the Blueprint legislation into the organizational fabric of our everyday work, the Plan embodies the aspirations that the people of Maryland have for our students.
