The Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn researches the physics of stars, galaxies and the universe in four departments. Effelsberg is one of the radio telescopes that is employed to observe radio waves at the MPIfR. With a diameter of 100 meters, it is one of the largest fully mobile radio telescopes on Earth.
