Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders is an international medical humanitarian aid organisation. We save peoples'​ lives in conflict zones, epidemics and natural disasters. Independence, neutrality and impartiality are at the core of everything we do. Our network of medics, logistical professionals and administrative staff spans more than 75 countries. Our medical teams carry out more than 16 million patient consultations a year. Our activities run from vaccination campaigns to complex surgery in war zones. From building hospitals to recruiting local teams, our non-medical staff make sure our field projects run smoothly, no matter what happens. And in our 26 headquarter offices around the globe, we fundraise, communicate and advocate on behalf of our patients. For every £1 donated, 79p goes directly to our life-saving medical work, with just 8p spent on support costs. We then reinvest the remaining 13p in future fundraising - we raise £6.32 for every £1 spent. MSF UK receives no government funding. Instead, our work is only possible because of private donors, charitable foundations and trusts. This means that when there is an emergency, we don’t need to wait for official funds to be released, a fundraising campaign to be launched or for the media to generate interest. Instead, we can act fast to save people’s lives based on need alone. Around the world, 365 days a year, we are there even when the cameras are not.
