About The National Fund for Excellence in American Indian Education

The National Fund for Excellence in American Indian Education (NFEAIE) is a Congressionally chartered 501(c)(3) foundation dedicated to supporting the 183-plus schools in the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). We work at the intersection of federal trust responsibility, Tribal innovation, and national accountability. Our role is to mobilize philanthropy, build partnerships, and amplify Indigenous leadership in education. Our mission is to support community-driven efforts that create educational environments where Native students thrive. These environments are grounded in Native language, culture, and holistic wellbeing. We do not fund systems. We invest in students, educators, and the bold ideas that emerge from Tribal communities. Our work includes Native language immersion grants, behavioral health programs, principal coaching, food sovereignty initiatives, and other efforts that reflect community priorities. Operating across 23 states and 64 reservations, we serve as a fiscal sponsor, grantmaker, and innovation partner. We help BIE schools access federal and private funding, and we support efforts that improve academic outcomes and cultural connection for Native students. At NFEAIE, we believe every Native student should attend a school that reflects their identity, supports their success, and celebrates their future. That vision guides everything we do. Rooted in culture. Built for the future. Learn more at www.nfeaie.org
