Northern Lights JV
Northern Lights delivers CO₂ transport and storage as a service, aiming to decarbonise industry.
About Northern Lights JV
Northern Lights offers CO₂ transport and storage as a service, enabling the reduction and removal of industrial emissions across Europe. As the first company to offer commercial carbon capture and storage (CCS) services, we are paving the way for scalable, cross-border climate solutions. Liquefied CO₂ is shipped from capture sites to our onshore receiving terminal in western Norway, before being transported by pipeline for permanent storage in a geological reservoir located 2,600 meters beneath the seabed. The first phase of Northern Lights is part of Longship, the Norwegian Government’s full-scale CCS project. We will initially transport and store CO₂ from two Norwegian industrial emitters: Heidelberg Materials’ cement factory in Brevik and Hafslund Celsio’s waste-to-energy plant in Oslo. In addition to our Norwegian operations, we have signed commercial agreements with Yara in the Netherlands, Ørsted in Denmark, and Stockholm Exergi in Sweden. The expansion for Phase 2 is enabled by a grant from the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy (CEF Energy) funding scheme.
