ORCA Offshore
Marine engineering for offshore transport and installation — analysis, motion forecasting, independent review
About ORCA Offshore
Orca Offshore is an independent marine engineering consultancy for offshore transport and installation. We answer the questions that decide whether an operation goes ahead: will the jacket survive the tow, does the float-over fit the weather window, what does the mooring do at the limit. Founded and led by Herm Bussemaker, Senior Naval Architect (MSc, TU Delft), with over thirty years across the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, West Africa, the Caspian and the Far East. Services: • Transport and installation analysis — jacket launch and upending, topside float-over, transport motions and stability • Mooring analysis — crane vessels, accommodation barges, FPSOs, berth mooring • Heavy lift and dynamic lift analysis • Workability and downtime analysis • Structural transport strength and fatigue analysis • Suction pile and anchor foundation design • Independent technical review, technical audit and incident root cause analysis • Conceptual design and innovation support Operational Motion Forecast (OMF) is our live forecasting service for offshore execution. A full 3D multibody MOSES model of the actual operation is built before mobilisation; each new weather forecast is then run through it, and the resulting motions, loads and utilisation against operational limits are published to the vessel through a web interface, with polar plots showing optimal heading. Crews can re-plan around the weather rather than wait it out, with no additional hardware on board. Delivered with a dynamic analysis report and a system description manual for marine warranty surveyor approval. Work has been delivered for or alongside BP, Chevron, Shell/NAM, Statoil, TenneT, Van Oord, Boskalis, Heerema, Subsea 7, SPT Offshore, Keppel Verolme, Tideway, the Dutch Safety Board and the European Commission. Fixed-scope, day rate or retained advisory. Based in Purmerend, the Netherlands; working worldwide. info@orca-offshore.com
