About Paul-Ehrlich-Institut

The Paul-Ehrlich-Institut is Germany's Federal Institute for Vaccines and Biomedicines. Innovations in vaccines and biomedicines drive the medicine of the future forward – and the safety and efficacy of these medicinal products require the interplay of responsible regulation and scientific excellence. Health is at the heart of our work: we research and evaluate biomedicines for humans as well as immunological veterinary medicinal products and grant authorisations if their benefits outweigh the risks. We are also responsible for the approval of clinical trials and pharmacovigilance – the monitoring of possible side effects. Our other tasks include official batch testing, scientific advice, and inspections. We support governmental bodies by providing expert advice and take on international mandates from organisations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and the European Commission. What sets us apart is our unique combination of regulatory tasks and internationally competitive research. Our own experimental research in the fields of biomedicine and life sciences forms the indispensable basis for our diverse regulatory activities. Our goal is to continuously improve access to safe, effective, and high-quality biomedicines through research, scientific evaluation, and testing. The Paul-Ehrlich-Institut operates under the Federal Ministry of Health (Bundesministerium für Gesundheit, BMG) and is based in Langen near Frankfurt am Main. Our nearly 1,000 employees advocate for public health every day. Imprint: www.pei.de/imprint
