About Practice of Architecture

What would an architecture firm look like if it didn't bill by the hour? The fee-for-service model is failing the profession. Architects deliver enormous value and get paid for time. That structure caps what a firm can earn, what it can risk, and what kind of life the people inside it get to build. Practice of Architecture exists to change the structure, not to optimize around it. Small tweaks to an existing model are still the existing model. Our work is business model transformation: how a firm creates value, who it creates value for, and how it gets paid for it. We work primarily with architecture firms of 100 people or fewer that want to build the firm differently, and with the AECO startups building for them. What that looks like depends on what a firm needs. Advisory engagements on operations, leadership, and AI integration. M&A support for firms and the investors backing them. Practice Lab, where firm leaders test ideas with peers instead of testing them alone. Practice Disrupted, the weekly podcast, now in its 13th season with more than 82,000 listeners. A weekly newsletter, courses, webinars, and speaking. On technology, we're AI-native and human-first. Humans AND AI working together, always the and. We teach literacy over tools, because the tools keep changing and the judgment has to hold. Founded by Evelyn Lee, FAIA, NOMA: architect, AIA Past President, and host of Practice Disrupted. The business should support the life you want. Most firms are built so that it can't. That's the work.
