About Rutgers Center on Public Security (RCPS)

RCPS offers a multi-disciplinary approach to the academic study and practical application of ways in which democratic societies can effectively address crime, terrorism and other threats to public security. This involves the prevention of, protection from, and response to natural or human-made events that could endanger the safety or security of people or property in a given area. In an unprecedented way, the RCPS engages all parts of the University and community organizations in exploring the needs and major consequences of heightened security and better public safety. RCPS engages in innovative data analysis and information dissemination for decision making and action. A core program of RCPS is research, training, and outreach related to environmental criminology and spatial analysis and their applications to risk-based policing, data-informed community engagement (DICE), and public safety programming. In particular, RCPS associates are involved with the following: Developing and advancing innovative and practical methods for research, evaluation, risk assessment, and operational planning for public safety outcomes; Working with multiple stakeholders to improve public safety and security through scholarly inquiry, interdisciplinary collaboration, and applied research; Delivering training, professional development, and credentialing opportunities to people in multiple fields of study and employment sectors; and Coordinating discussions and consultations across academic, professional, corporate, and governmental agencies.
