About SALT DESIGN STUDIO

SALT DESIGN STUDIO is a landscape architecture practice committed to sustainability through transformation and revitalization of natural and built landscapes. We bring an ethnographic and artistic approach to place-making, engaging the physical, visual, and historical culture of a site. As elemental to our survival as salt, landscapes play a major role in shaping how we interact, both publicly and privately. SALT recognizes that we are affected daily by the condition and perceived economic and ecological value of the landscape around us. In this sense, landscape has become the environmental currency of the 21st century, not unlike the historical service of salt. The landscape is at once profit and habitat for humans, animals, plants and even objects. Our art and our ideas spring from the conviction that the designed landscape is inseparable from what makes us human. Context creates messages; we create designs rooted in the fundamentals of each site and in the unique needs of each client. SALT strives to restore energy and vibrancy, create inspiring form and texture, and find meaning in the natural ecology of a place. SALT DESIGN STUDIO was founded in 2004 and is based in Philadelphia. Our services span the entire process of creating place, from initial strategies and large-scale planning to design through construction documentation and review.
