About Sheffield Place

Sheffield Place, the only treatment center in Kansas City focused on homeless mothers with mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence issues and their children in our community, serves 24 families at in the facility at any one time; 139 families (up to 296 individuals) received services in 2023 through the residential and aftercare/outpatient services. These families are making the difficult journey from despair to hope and from homelessness to self-sufficiency. They are breaking the generational cycles of poverty, homelessness, addiction, and violence. With a mission “To empower homeless mothers and their children to heal from their trauma and become self-sufficient,” Sheffield Place offers a path from homelessness to self-sufficiency through four fully integrated service: Residential, Residential Clinical, Aftercare/Outpatient, and Permanent Housing. What sets Sheffield Place apart is the commitment to trauma-informed, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, the exclusive focus on homeless mothers and their children, the length of stay that is tailored to the specific needs of each family, and the delivery of all services onsite. Since 1991, Sheffield Place has empowered hundreds of homeless mothers and their children to make the difficult journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency.
