SCAA represents the aggregate industry to government. Through active committee efforts, we have the technical expertise that few companies can afford. Trending now, is moving toward increased government control of our industry. Evolving regulation of ground water, reclamation, land use and natural resources are just a few examples. Together we speak with a collective voice. Education and information are very important today. The South Carolina Aggregates Association meetings and workshops provide members an opportunity to become better informed on industry matters. Likewise, our members work with local communities to educate them about the many uses and benefits provided by aggregates. Just how valuable is the aggregates industry to South Carolina? Fact is, everything we consume on a daily basis is either grown or mined. Therefore, consider this: South Carolina produces about 45 million tons of aggregate material (sand and gravel, crushed stone, crushed concrete) annually. These materials are used for construction, road pavement, concrete products, water filtration, golf courses, roofing material and many other uses. South Carolina's aggregate industry employs almost 2500 highly skilled men and women.
