About Stiftung GRS (Foundation)

tiftung Gemeinsame Rücknahmesysteme Batterien (Stiftung GRS Batterien) is Germany's competence centre for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs) under Article 57 of the European Batteries Regulation. Founded in 1998 by leading battery manufacturers together with the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI), the Foundation has more than 25 years of experience in implementing and advancing producer responsibility systems. As an independent, non-profit organisation, Stiftung GRS Batterien supports producers, importers and other market participants in fulfilling their obligations under Extended Producer Responsibility. At the same time, it serves as a national and international think tank, bringing together industry, academia and policymakers to develop innovative solutions for the circular economy and the sustainable design of take-back, collection and recycling systems. The Foundation combines scientific research with practical implementation. Through its open competence centre, it initiates and coordinates research and development projects across the entire battery value chain, helping to advance circular economy solutions for batteries and other product groups. In addition, Stiftung GRS Batterien provides consulting, training, and research & development services for producers, importers and OEMs. It also supports the establishment and continuous development of national and international Extended Producer Responsibility systems, contributing to more sustainable and resource-efficient product stewardship worldwide.
