About TALMA: The Program For Excellence In English

TALMA was founded in 2014 as a summer teaching fellowship and has since grown into a national organization transforming English education in Israel. We work to strengthen English proficiency in under-resourced communities, viewing English as a key to expanded access to higher education and meaningful employment. Alongside improving language outcomes, TALMA leads efforts to modernize English teaching nationwide through immersive, standards-based instruction. TALMA is a partnership between the Ministry of Education, the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, and the Steinhardt Family Foundation in Israel, created to address both educational inequality in Israel and the need for meaningful service opportunities for Jewishly connected international educators. The Israel Program for Excellence in English combines English-immersion education for low-income elementary school students with a fellowship for international teacher-leaders committed to educational equity. TALMA Fellows dedicate their summer to teaching in Israeli classrooms and, in return, receive professional development, leadership training, and a powerful platform for social impact.
