About TEAM MALIZIA
TEAM MALIZIA is a professional offshore sailing team led by skipper Boris Herrmann, competing in the world’s most demanding races, including the Vendée Globe and The Ocean Race. Since 2018, we have combined elite performance sailing with a strong commitment to science, education, and climate action through our mission A Race We Must Win – Climate Action Now!. Equipped with an OceanPack mini-laboratory aboard our IMOCA racing yacht Malizia – Seaexplorer, we collect essential data on CO₂, sea-surface temperature, and salinity, contributing to major scientific work such as the Global Carbon Budget and IPCC reports. During races, we also deploy instruments including drifter buoys and Argo floats in under-sampled regions of the Ocean. Education is a core pillar of our work. Through My Ocean Challenge, supported by UNESCO-IOC and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, we have engaged 118,000+ children since 2018, using the adventure of sailing to spark interest in Ocean science and climate solutions. Our mission is made possible by the long-term commitment of our main partners: Yacht Club de Monaco, EFG International, Zurich Group Germany, Hapag-Lloyd, Schütz, and KPMG Germany. In 2025, we expanded our climate research efforts with Malizia Explorer, a dedicated research, communication, and outreach vessel. Operating in remote regions from the tropics to the poles, the vessel enables targeted scientific expeditions alongside our racing programme. We have already completed research missions to Antarctica in partnership with world-renowned scientific institutions, including the Danger Islands and Western Antarctic Peninsula, helping to collect data in some of the most under-sampled and climate-sensitive areas of our planet.
