About Terre Haute Police Department

The Terre Haute Police Department is an ILEAC-accredited law enforcement agency staffed by 133 full-time sworn officers assigned across the Operations Division, Investigations Division, and Special Services. The Operations Division includes Uniform Patrol, the K9 Unit, and Traffic Division, and also oversees the Special Response Team (SWAT) and Incident Response Team for crowd control. The Investigations Division consists of the Violent Crimes Unit, Property Crimes Unit, White Collar and Auto Theft Unit, and Juvenile Investigations. It also oversees detectives assigned to the Vigo County Drug Task Force, a multi-jurisdictional narcotics unit, and the Crime Scene Unit. Support Services manage the Records Division, Fleet Management, Training, the Environmental Protections Division, and various civilian support staff functions. Employment Opportunities: THPD conducts an annual hiring process to fill officer vacancies. Applications are typically accepted from February through mid-April, with qualified applicants undergoing written and physical testing, interviews, and a comprehensive background check. Those who meet the standards set by the Merit Commission are ranked on a one-year hiring list.
