More than 39,000 people in Northern Virginia have an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD)—including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and rare chromosomal disorders. The Arc of Northern Virginia promotes and protects their human rights and supports their full inclusion in the community, at every age and every stage of life. As a local chapter of The Arc, the nation's largest community-based organization for people with IDD, we serve the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, and Falls Church, and Arlington and Fairfax Counties. Our impact: -2,000+ Information & Referral requests answered every year, helping families navigate a complex disability service system -2,100+ families securing their loved ones' financial futures through our Special Needs Trust program -70+ free workshops and webinars annually, covering everything from early intervention to aging with a disability -Award-winning Tech for Independent Living tools that build real-world independence -Medicaid Waiver support coordination, public guardianship, self-advocacy programs, and year-round advocacy in Richmond and beyond We are a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit governed by a local volunteer board of directors—powered by members, donors, and volunteers who believe independence belongs to everyone.
