Every community has an extraordinary resource: experienced leaders who want to help others succeed. The Venture Mentoring Team (VMT) connects that expertise with entrepreneurs and small businesses through a collaborative mentoring model that strengthens entrepreneurial ecosystems. Rather than creating another accelerator or entrepreneurial support organization, the VMT partners with universities, accelerators, incubators, economic development organizations and nonprofits to build a trusted community of volunteer mentors serving many organizations. The VMT recruits seasoned executives and business leaders who demonstrate empathy, integrity and a genuine desire to help others. Every mentor is interviewed, background checked, educated in the VMT methodology and follows a Code of Conduct. Through online learning, workshops and professional development, the VMT prepares mentors to strengthen founders judgment rather than direct decisions. Team mentoring enables mentors to learn from one another while helping entrepreneurs navigate uncertainty. Today, the VMT supports an international network of mentors and partners across North America, Latin America, and Europe, connecting mentors, founders, universities and accelerators to share knowledge. The VMT's volunteer leadership model generates more than $32 in mentoring services for every dollar invested. Success is measured by stronger leaders, healthier organizations and paying knowledge forward.
