The United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) is an intergovernmental subsidiary body of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) that brings together experts from around the world to develop trade facilitation policy recommendations and electronic business standards. UN/CEFACT envisions trusted, interoperable and increasingly digital trade ecosystems, where information flows seamlessly across borders and jurisdictions. Within the United Nations framework under the Economic and Social Council, UNECE serves as the focal point for trade facilitation recommendations and electronic business standards. Its mandate covers both commercial and government business processes, supporting growth in international trade and related services. UNECE-UN/CEFACT is mandated to develop international trade facilitation recommendations and data exchange standards. Its global community of experts delivers consensus-based, globally applicable instruments through an open and transparent process. Through its 49 policy recommendations and more than 900 semantic standards and technical specifications, UN/CEFACT supports the transition to interoperable, data-driven trade ecosystems, helping governments and businesses build more efficient, transparent and sustainable global trade systems.
