AdBIOPRO, Competence Centre for Advanced Bioproduction received a grant of US Patent 12,679,864 B2 protecting a process born from a collaboration.

AdBIOPRO is the Competence Centre for Advanced BioProduction. Under the direction of Professor Veronique Chotteau at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, AdBIOPRO started in 2017 and has now in 2023 been granted continuation for a new period of 5 years by Vinnova with a total budget of 112 mkr. This highly multi-disciplinary Centre gathers eight academic groups from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Lund University, Karolinska Hospital, Karolinska Institutet and Linköping University, as well as 16 industrial partners. The industry partners are Alfa Laval, ArgusEye, BioInvent International, BioLamina, CCRM Nordic, Cellcolabs, Cellevate, Cytiva, Erbi Biosystems, a company of Merck KGaA Darmstadt Germany, Magic Bioprocessing, Metenova, a company of Repligen, NorthX Biologics, Nyctea Technologies, Servier, Timegate Instruments, and Valneva. A panel of international experts and generalists have evaluated the work of AdBIOPRO with concluding statements such as: AdBIOPRO is designed to build a foundation for an important Pharma 4.0 area for integrated and continuous bioproduction. This field is of strategic importance for the industry. The high-quality science, education and competence sharing of AdBIOPRO are very relevant for the Swedish industry and its international competitiveness and for the society at large (patients, health system) as it facilitates new biopharmaceuticals, produced more economically and more sustainably. AdBIOPRO is one of the very few academic centres in the world focusing on continuous bioproduction, and probably the only one with such broadness of scope and collaborations. The Centre has developed collaborations nationally and internationally as shown by the number of contacts established with top academic institutions and many companies in Sweden and abroad.
