About As Goes The South
As Goes The South is a narrative change project for the South, rooted in the City of Birmingham. We are The Southern Futures Project (SFP), a collective of Southern policy advocates, storytellers, and organizers dedicated to advocating for ideas, individuals, and institutions that honor and fortify Black-led communities. The Southern Futures Project was launched when a collective of thought leaders, anchored by mayors in the South, penned an article titled, "A Roadmap for Winning the South” in response to 2020 presidential candidates who sought endorsement from Southern Mayors. This groundbreaking article not only outlined a visionary strategy for political engagement but also highlighted the unique cultural and historical significance of the Southern region. In 2022, members of SFP conceived As Goes The South as a long-form narrative change effort to bring to life the concepts featured in their 2020 article. This initiative aims to amplify Southern voices and stories, fostering a deeper understanding of the South's role in shaping national discourse. By intertwining policy advocacy with storytelling, we strive to create a dynamic platform that both informs and inspires, ensuring that the rich and diverse heritage of the South is celebrated and preserved for future generations.
